Sheena live-aboard : Maldives
The 'Sheena' is a 24 metre Maldivian diving safari vessel based at Medhufushi Island Resort. Built in 2005 and refurnished & modernised in June 2008, her experienced crew & highly motivated instructors will be happy to show you diving in the Maldives at its best.
The Maldives is a chain of 26 atolls, comprising 1,200 islands, lying 600km Southwest of Sri Lanka at the Southern tip of India.

The Sheena has a spacious saloon, as well as several decks offering either shade or exposure to the sun (in total there are 3 shaded decks: in front of the saloon, behind the saloon at the stern and behind the cabins on the upper deck, all of which are furnished with sun loungers and mats.) In addition to the main sun deck, there is also a second sun deck located in front of the wheel house with a comfortable relaxation area.
Accommodation
Sheena accommodates a maximum of 14 guests in 7 cabins, all of which have an en-suite bathroom & toilet featuring all the usual facilities including a basin, toilet with a normal flushing system (i.e. no complicated/unusual flushing methods), and a hot & cold fresh water shower. All cabins have a continuously available power supply (220V).
Cabins on the lower deck are suitable for single guests and diving buddies, as they are furnished with two single beds.
The two cabins located on the upper deck, known as 'owners cabins', are larger, with an area of almost 17 sq. metres, and are furnished with double beds.
Food & Drink
Meals are primarily served at a large table located outside at the stern of the boat, but can also be enjoyed in the spacious saloon at three large tables.
A barbeque on one of the islands is also arranged once a week – undoubtedly one of the highlights of every tour on the Sheena!
On request, a romantic candlelight dinner for two under the stars on the sun deck, can be arranged.
There is a well-stocked bar offering a wide variety of drinks for guests enjoyment in the saloon and on the shaded deck. Tea, coffee and water are available, free of charge, all day.
Diving & Dive Equipment
For the first time, Sheena will be offering charters in the southern Maldives. Sailings depart every Sunday leaving from Medhufushi Resort. You will be diving untouched & unexplored reefs & channels in the Meemu, Laamu and Thaa Atolls in the Southern Maldives. On request, alternate routes traveling to Felidhoo Atoll (hammerhead sharks) and South Ari Atoll (whale sharks) are also available.
Sheena is accompanied by a diving dhoni with capacity for transporting 18 divers. Guests diving equipment will be permanently stored on the dhoni, and this is from where all diving will take place.
It is possible to rent equipment from the fully equipped diving centre at Medhufushi Resort, however guests should bring spare parts for their own equipment, due to a limited supply available locally.
There are usually two or three dives scheduled per day, with night dives one to two times per week. As is customary in the Maldives most of the dives will be drift dives and we will be collected by the dhoni wherever we surface. There will be also dives requiring a negative entry (fast descent), and for a short distance, swimming against the current in order to reach a particularly interesting part of the reef. Classic Maldivian diving at it’s best!
To participate in a diving safari on the Sheena, each diver is required to show proof of at least 30 logged dives, and if possible, be in possession of an advanced diving license from an internationally recognized diving organization (e.g. CMAS 2*, SSI advanced open water/advanced adventurer, PADI advanced or equivalent). The official diving regulations in the Maldives allow a maximum depth limit of 30m. It is compulsory for each diver to wear a computer, to be in possession of a surface marker buoy, an alternate air source and for the night dives, a torch as well as a strobe light per buddy team. All equipment needed can be rented at our dive centre at Medhufushi Resort.
