Kudhima wreck

Scuba Diving

The Dive Centre 'Dive Machchafushi' has English and German speaking experienced Instructors. The house reef is a short distance away and ideal for snorkeling and diving.

Machchafushi Resort is of particular interest to divers, as it is situated close to a number of interesting dive sites, some of which have now become protected as nature reserves. One particular site is the wreck of the MV Kudhima (right), a 65 metre long cargo ship that was built in Japan in 1969 and purposely sunk as an attraction for divers in 1999. The wreck is located just opposite Machchafushi Island at a depth of around 25-30m, and has attracted a large amount of marine life on and around it.
